Adams County and Delta Regional Authority Announce Investment in Industrial Park Development

October 26, Natchez, MS- This afternoon, representatives of Delta Regional Authority, Adams County, and City of Natchez gathered to announce the DRA investment of $1,266,500 into the Adams County Industrial Park.  This investment is dedicated to the construction of a 8,000 feet ring levee to protect 110 acres at the industrial property formerly known as Belwood upon completion of all phases of the project.

The 130 acres that currently makes up the Adams County Port Industrial complex, also ringed by a levee system, is nearing maximum capacity.  This complex is home to World Energy, Genesis Energy, Great River Industires and Bastech, to name a few, and has recently seen significant capital investment of roughly $355 Million from public & private investments while employing up to 480 people.

“Our strongest and most valuable asset in regard to industrial development potential is the Mississippi River.  This investment will allow us an additional 110 acres of developable and marketable property with direct river access adjacent to our port.  Additionally, the property shares a boundary with the existing industrial property.  The property once levied, should be the best available industrial property on the Mississippi River,” said Chandler Russ, Executive Director, Natchez, Inc.

Based on recent economic development successes and current interest, Natchez, Inc. expects this property to deliver a similar investment of $350 Million while creating an additional 450-500 jobs at the site.  Adams County has already made a significant investment at this site in preparation of industrial development by purchasing the property for $900,000 and making $700,000 worth of infrastructure improvements.  The additional investment by DRA will make Belwood a premier industrial site on the Lower Mississippi River.

“The County, nearly 20 years ago, recognized the value of industrial property on the river.  We identified the funds to build a levee and we are pleased to have the support from Delta Regional Authority and our congressional delegation to finally see this become a reality.  We thank all involved and we are excited for the future of Adams County,” said Mike Lazarus, President, Adams County Board of Supervisors.

Natchez, Inc. currently has 4 active clients looking at this site for industrial development.
